STATEMENT ON ICE MURDER OF LORENZO SALGADO ARAUJO IN HOUSTON
BY ASSEMBLY MEMBER JESSICA GONZÁLEZ-ROJAS
I am heartbroken and deeply disturbed by the death of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo during a federal immigration enforcement operation in Houston. My thoughts are with his loved ones as they grieve this devastating loss and seek answers about what happened
No family should have to wonder whether a routine encounter with law enforcement will end in tragedy. Every use of deadly force by federal immigration agents demands complete transparency, independent oversight, and accountability
Communities deserve the truth, and Mr. Salgado Araujo's family deserves a full and impartial accounting of the events that led to his death
This tragedy once again raises serious concerns
about an
immigration enforcement system that too often relies on fear, aggressive tactics, and a lack of accountability. Regardless of immigration status, every person deserves to be treated with dignity and afforded due process. No family should have to endure the loss of a loved one during an enforcement action
ICE must be abolished for everyone's safety
