Summer Pet Safety Tips for Upstate New York

Summer is one of the best times to explore Upstate New York with your furry best friend. Whether you’re hiking local trails, relaxing by the lake, or spending time in the backyard, a few simple precautions can help keep your pet safe and comfortable all season long

Keep Them Cool

Dogs and cats can overheat much faster than people. Always make sure fresh, cool water is available, and provide plenty of shade if they’re spending time outdoors. On especially hot afternoons, it’s often best to save walks for early morning or after sunset

Watch the Pavement

A sidewalk that feels warm to your hand can be painfully hot on your pet’s paws. Try the seven-second test, if you can’t comfortably keep the back of your hand on the pavement, it’s too hot for your dog. Grass or shaded trails are much better options

Never Leave Pets in a Parked Car
