Adelante summer program

We’re so privileged to be the premier organization serving immigrant high school students in the Hudson Valley

As we close the 10th edition of our summer program, where we prepare our kids for college, it’s hard to imagine where we can be 10 years from now

It feels already incredible beyond our expectations to be here, the children inspire us and challenge us in unexpected ways and as they continue to be involved, soon they’ll take over leadership and take us to higher places

We wanted to share this beautiful speech by one of our graduates, that we believe encapsulates the spirit and impact of our work

Hola a todos - hi everyone.

Mi nombre es redacted - my name is redacted

Primero que todo gracias susie, kevin y Adelante por esta oportunidad. first of all thank you susie, kevin and Adelante for giving me this opportunity. Fueron diez días increíbles donde aprendi muchas cosas que van a servir en mi futuro. These 10 days were amazing. I learned many new things that will help me in the future. pero también aprendi algo aún mas importante: que mi voz tiene valor y puedo marcar la diferencia. But I also learned something very important my voice matters, and I can make a difference

Muchos de nosotros llegamos con una maleta llena de ropa. many of us arrive with nothing but a bag full of clothes. y con el corazón lleno de miedo, esperanza y sueños. And with the heart full fears and dreams. Nadie vio las lagrimas en el camino No one saw the tears on the way. Las despedidas que nos rompieron el alma. Ni el miedo de empezar de nuevo sin entender otro idioma. Not even The fear of Starting over, without, knowing another language.

dicen que empezar de cero es imposible. They say that starting over from zero is impossible

Pero los inmigrantes lo hacemos todos los días.

But us immigrants do it everyday. y si tuvimos el valor de dejar todo atrás. And if we had the courage to leave every thing behind.

Todo lo que amamos para un perseguir un futuro mejor. Everything we love,

in order to find a better future.

Entonces no hay sueno demasiado grande

Then, theres no bigger dream

Ni frontera demasiado alta que nos impida alcanzar nuestros sueños, nor a barrier so high we can’t climb over it. Por que los inmigrantes no solo cruzamos fronteras. because, as immigrants, not only we cross frontiers. demostramos que la esperanza siempre puede ser mas fuere que el miedo. we prove that hope is an always Stranger than fear

Antes de estar en este programa, no conocía mucho sobre los derechos de los inmigrantes. Before this program, I didn’t know much about immigrant rights. ni sobre todo lo que podemos hacer para ayudar a nuestra comunidad. especially what we can do to help our community. Hoy me voy con una forma diferente de pensar. Today I'm leaving here with a new way of thinking, Este programa me cambió. por que ahora quiero involucrarme mas. This program has changed me because now I want to be involved. Aprender mas sobre nuestros derechos. learning more about our rights. y ayudar a otros personas a que también los conozcan y los puedan defender. And help other people learn and defend Themselves: Me llevo nuevos conocimientos, nuevas amistades y recuerdos que siempre voy a guardar con mucho cariño. I'm leaving with new knowledge new friends and memories that I will keep forever
